Description

Our client is a leading global technology and services provider in the floating offshore wind energy market.

The Role

The Fabrication team is essential in delivering floating offshore wind platforms, overseeing the full project lifecycle from engineering to commissioning. They ensure compliance with quality and safety standards while driving innovation and efficiency in fabrication methods to support large-scale industrial deployment. The team also explores new technologies and collaborates closely with stakeholders to enhance project execution and maintain the company’s leadership in the offshore wind market.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Fabrication Manager, you will play a crucial role in the Industrialisation Project of our technology. You will develop welding best methodologies for fabrication, ensuring quality of the product, contributing to the seamless execution of large-scale projects, and assisting on the fabrication activities of wind platforms in shipyards within the company and externally before clients:

Contribute to the Company´ Owner´s Engineering (OE) business:

  • Cooperation on the OE model (definition of SoW, assessment of resource needs, budgeting, etc. for services to be rendered during, but not limited to, the EPC phase of offshore floating unit projects).

Industrialisation Project:

  • Engage with the supply chain to provide feedback on fabrication / construction for the best processes, constrains and requirements, and seek solutions for schedule & cost reduction.

  • Alongside with Structural Team define the most optimise welding requirements, by a full research study on the design and type of welding vs design requirements.

  • Cooperate on the development of project execution plans

  • Research and integrate new welding technologies and methodologies suitable for industrialisation.

Project Management and Coordination:

  • Plan and coordinate welding activities to align with project timelines and budget constraints during the industrialisation phase.

  • Liaise with project managers, design engineers, and other departments to ensure smooth project execution and transition to large-scale production.

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international welding standards and regulations, particularly for large-scale operations.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency in mass production.

Participate on Fabrication Team activities:

  • On commercial projects provide information and manage interaction with client/supply chain/ partners, specifically related to Welding Processes.

  • Review of design/engineering documentation.

  • Participate in project design reviews, constructability reviews & HAZIDs.

  • Support and contribute to project (pre-FEED, FEED, EPCI) tasks applicable to and/or related to fabrication and general knowledge of typical project execution plan of offshore floating units (development, review, etc.).

  • Read and interpret project documentation (drawings, specifications, datasheets, procedures, etc.).

  • Handle fabrication technical queries: discuss requested and/or identified deviations and related remedial solutions.

  • Identify deviations requiring design/engineering approval differing from fabrication adjustments and liaise with engineering for follow-up.

  • Ensure company HSE policies are adhered to. Drive an incident free environment through establishing and maintaining a strong safety culture.

Operations & Maintenance (O&M):

  • Contribute to development and management of offshore inspection & maintenance plans.

  • Incorporate fabrication data into O&M ITPs.

  • Support (and occasional participation in) offshore inspections carried out in operational units.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience in welding engineering, preferably in a large-scale manufacturing or industrial environment (preferable Wind towers fabrication).

  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, techniques, and standards.

  • Experience with quality control processes and non-destructive testing methods.

  • Ability to read and interpret all details of fabrication documentation.

  • Knowledge in CAD software, in particular AutoCAD and SolidWorks, Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word), FEA software packages.

  • Safety awareness on construction sites. Good physical condition. Ability to obtain certificates for work at height and work in confined spaces. Training will be provided.

  • Perfect command of written and spoken English. Spoken Portuguese or Spanish also welcome.

Other requirements:

  • Hard-working and exemplary ethical record mandatory.
