Radioactive Process Design Engineer
Our client, a Pioneering Nuclear start-up is looking for a RADwaste Process Design Lead to contribute to the development of their Radioactive Waste Design department. Our exciting client are a clean and safe nuclear technology company looking to disrupt the energy space by developing designs based on innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs).

Role
Accountable to the Head of Radwaste Design for the management and delivery of the radioactive waste process design for lead-cooled fast reactor projects.
Duties
- Support the design of LFR radwaste systems, radwaste building and spent fuel storage facilities
- Work with the Safety and Licensing team to evaluate the LFR source term to quantify liquid and gaseous waste streams in collaboration with relevant plants, systems and processes owners
- Determination of appropriate radioactive waste generation, treatment, measurement, assessment and disposal options and solutions taking into account industry best practice
- Undertake technical activities related to the task/project in order to achieve the technical project objectives in the most effective and efficient manner
- Act as subject matter expert and point of contact as directed by Head of Unit across the business, advising on relevant aspects of radwaste design
- Assume responsibility for the quality of relevant radwaste engineering outputs, adherence to standards and legislation, regulatory and contractual requirements
- Support the global engineering team in overall design optimisation considering in particular cost, schedule, constructability and modularisation.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor (Hons) degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Science or equivalent or significant relevant industry experience
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering, or equivalent body
- Experience of developing designs for radioactive waste systems, radioactive waste processing, radioactive waste storage and spent fuel facilities
- Experience interfacing with nuclear regulators
- Experience in writing and presenting technical documentation
- Experience in nuclear power development projects
- Broad knowledge relating to radioactive waste system design, radwaste and conventional waste management, optimisation techniques and regulatory expectations
- Knowledge/ experience of supporting design process
- Capable of ensuring the principles of optimisation are incorporated into the design
- Ability to manage Customer/Supplier relationships in the sphere of his/her job duties
