Radioactive Waste Process Design Lead

Our client, a Pioneering Nuclear start-up is looking for a RADwaste Process Design Lead to contribute to the development of their Radioactive Waste Design department. Our exciting client are a clean and safe nuclear technology company looking to disrupt the energy space by developing designs based on innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs).

Role

Accountable to the Head of Radwaste Design for the management and delivery of the radioactive waste process design for lead-cooled fast reactor projects.

Duties

  • Lead the design of LFR radwaste systems, radwaste building and spent fuel storage facilities
  • Collaborate with the Safety and Licensing team to identify and quantify all solid, liquid and gaseous waste streams requiring management
  • Determination of appropriate radioactive waste generation, treatment, measurement, assessment and disposal options and solutions taking into account industry best practice
  • Accountable to the Head of Radwaste Design for the technical coordination between different disciplines involved in the project and compliance with the task/project objectives
  • Overall design lead for radwaste building and spent fuel storage facilities
  • Coordinates the technical activities related to the task/project in order to achieve the technical project objectives in the most effective and efficient manner
  • Specifies the technical plans and operating budgets, as well as all subsequent amendments and variations
  • Identification of the logic and priority for the delivery of the technical documents, tasks, discipline / External Entities interactions, key milestones and delivery targets
  • Coordination of Supply and/or control of the inputs for each design phase
  • Manage the internal technical interfaces and implement the technical solutions agreed upon with the Heads of the involved Units
  • Progress close-out of all actions, from technical meetings, project meetings, concessions, technical queries etc. to achieve compliant contract completion
  • Key stakeholder technical contact and communication interface
  • Applying the company procedure of Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety System and Organisational Model

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor (Hons) degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Science or equivalent or significant relevant industry experience
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering, or equivalent body
  • Experience of developing designs for radioactive waste systems, radioactive waste processing, radioactive waste storage and spent fuel facilities
  • Experience interfacing with nuclear regulators
  • Experience in writing and presenting technical documentation
  • Experience in nuclear power development projects
  • Detailed technical knowledge relating to radioactive waste system design, radwaste and conventional waste management, optimisation techniques and regulatory expectations
  • Technical Leadership at an interdisciplinary level
  • Knowledge/ experience of supporting design process
  • Capable of ensuring the principles of optimisation are incorporated into the design
  • Ability to manage Customer/Supplier relationships in the sphere of his/her job duties
