Our client is a fast-growing business mainly focussed the provision of offshore services in support of renewables projects. They are finding success by advancing developing technology that brings more automation into traditionally resource intensive marine activities. This business is seeing significant growth and they are looking for a COO who understands and can demonstrate what it takes to translate strategy into action while working in a rapidly changing, growing business.

Our client is looking for an effective leader to build an efficient and engaged organisation. The COO will support the development, evolution and execution of the strategic plan whilst balancing the needs of the executive board and customers to achieve a suite of operational targets designed to support significant growth over the short-medium horizon as they prepare to list.

The Opportunity:

The COO will lead and manage operations by the development and execution of pragmatic business strategies, implementing systems, processes and governance to support the growth of the business.

Through close alignment with the other key roles in the organisation the COO will strongly influence operations with a focus on driving capital efficiency, operational excellence and project margin performance. The COO is expected to exercise critical thinking and detail- oriented oversight in ensuring that operations are efficient, effective, and best in class.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities:

  • This is a dynamic and varied role where the key responsibilities and decision you make will determine the impact you make on the business.
  • Help shape and execute the business strategy to achieve the macro business plan.
  • Drive geographical expansion both organic and through M&A.
  • Develop annual and longer-term strategic plans, budgets, and associated reporting for the business’ operations
  • Lead and support those responsible for the management of P&L and cash positions, ensuring that accurate project budgets are developed and opportunities for growth in operating cash flow are capitalised.
  • Direct and oversee operational compliance with company objectives, best-practice project management, governmental regulations, commercial/contractual agreements
  • Lead and manage operations to drive continuous improvement across the organisation with a particular focus on, project finances and governance, communications, asset and resource utilisation, risk
  • Demonstrate visible leadership in setting strategically aligned objectives, supporting, and developing your team to own and achieve them.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Business Development and Finance to define and deliver new projects aligned with the strategic plan
  • Take the initiative in thought leadership, innovation, and creativity to drive business outcomes
  • Represent the company at external events including industry-related conferences and media opportunities
  • Represent the company externally, fostering client relationships, industry body affiliations and inputting into marketing opportunities

About you & what you will bring

We’re looking for an experienced and talented General Manager or senior leader who has what it takes to make a real impact that is felt across the business. The profile of this individual could be from an operational or business services background with proven leadership and general business acumen.

  • Demonstrable experience leading and growing a business (within the oil & gas or renewables sector) with the associated financial & commercial acumen
  • Experience overseeing marine projects with a focus on innovation.
  • The ability and gravitas to advise, help set, iterate, and execute strategic plans to ensure sustainable business growth, to include geographical expansion
  • A proven track record in building on strong foundations to establish process, systems and tools that optimise operations
  • An approach that brings the best out of people. Demonstrated an ability to build & develop high-performing teams that you are capable of mobilising around common objectives to achieve success
